With many networks expected to begin their 4G services in the UK in the next few months, the UK Government today announced their intention to look at ways of expanding the available 4G spectrum by 2020.
There is a sizeable 500MHz of 4G spectrum currently used by public bodies in the country.
The Budget report included:
“In order to meet the commitment to release 500MHz of spectrum by 2020, the government will look to introduce further financial incentives to ensure more efficient use and management of public sector spectrum holdings.”
George Osborne also insisted that
“fastest broadband and mobile telephony in Europe”.
It is expected that 4G will help to address some of the issues of people in remote areas who are currently either not served or underserved by fixed-line broadband services.
